NEW MEADOWS - One person died when his car went off the road near New Meadows Monday night.
Police say Robert Bergen, 53 was headed southbound on Highway 55 near milepost 154. He drove around a curve and his car went off the road, striking a power pole – and a tree.
Bergen’s van then hit a second tree, coming to rest. He was partially thrown from the van. Police say he was not wearing a seatbelt, and they think alcohol is a factor in the crash.
An investigation into exactly what happened continues.
