BAYVIEW -- Authorities say they are still piecing together the facts in the fatal shooting of a north Idaho hunter and have not yet decided whether to file criminal charges against the shooter.

Kootenai County Sheriff Ben Wolfinger says detectives have finished analyzing the scene of Wednesday's shooting near Bayview.

The victim was 22-year-old David Howard, who was shot once in the side of the chest with a .300 Winchester Magnum rifle.

Wolfinger says investigators believe the shooter and Howard were about 70 feet apart and standing in thick brush at the time the shot was fired, about 15 minutes after sunset.

The identity of the shooter has not been released by the sheriff's department.
