Cyclists ride to raise awareness

BOISE -- The memorial service for Sarah Howard, the cyclist killed by a SUV last Friday was held Thursday, and cyclists from the Treasure Valley gathered for a silent ride in Boise.

Hundreds, both at the memorial service as well as the silent ride, came to show their support to the Howard family for their sudden loss.

It was early Friday morning when the 48-year-old Meridian woman was hit by a Hummer on her day off.

Police said she was thrown from the bike and killed instantly.

Sarah Howard, 48, of Meridian, was killed Friday while riding her bike near a busy intersection.

Now as you drive past the intersection of Overland and Eagle roads you will see a memorial with a bike, as well as flowers.

The support her family has seen has left them in awe.

"Sarah touched a lot of people. I knew that, but then I didn't either, I didn't know how much. I just didn't know the impact that she'd had on so many people's lives," said Mike Howard, Sarah’s husband.

Cyclists took part in the silent ride to show their respect and sympathy for the Hubbard family, as well as raise awareness for bicycle safety.
