BOISE -- After a year-and-a-half behind bars in Coeur d’Alene, one of Idaho’s most infamous criminals is in Boise.
One week after his plea deal, Joseph Duncan was transported today from Kootenai County to Boise.
Duncan pleaded guilty to kidnapping and murdering three of the five family members involved in a brutal killing spree last year in Coeur d’Alene.
He was sentenced to three consecutive life terms for the kidnappings, but has not yet learned his fate for the murders.
As part of the sentencing, he was moved to the Idaho Maximum Security Institution in Boise, arriving around 10:30 a.m.
Because of the high profile nature of Duncan’s crimes his transfer was kept secret until it was successfully completed.
Duncan will remain in solitary confinement at the maximum security prison as he was in the Kootenai County Jail.
Meanwhile, investigators just finished interviewing Duncan, which was another condition of his plea agreement.
They say Duncan gave them detailed information about the murders and confirmed for detectives that he acted alone.
Duncan is now awaiting federal charges of kidnapping and murder in connection with the abduction of Shasta and Dylan Groene, and the killing of Dylan.
He is expected to face the death penalty if convicted in a federal court.
