Man charged with DUI... on a Segway
11:21 AM MDT on Monday, October 22, 2007
BOISE - A Boise bicycle officer ticketed a Segway operator in downtown Boise for suspicion of driving under the influence.
Police say 53-year-old Richard Emil Kober steered his standup scooter in an erratic manner and nearly hit a pedestrian walking along Main Street on Saturday.
Police say that at first they didn't know if a Segway fell under Idaho law for driving under the influence.
Segways are electric-powered machines that a person propels by leaning in different directions.
Police decided the machine did fall under DUI laws and arrested the man and booked him into the Ada County Jail on DUI charges.
