06:41 PM MDT on Friday, October 19, 2007
MERIDIAN -- Meridian Police and Ada County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a fatal accident at the intersection Eagle and Overland roads just before 10 this morning.
Officers say 43-year-old Erika Janzen of Boise was driving eastbound on Overland Road in black 2003 Hummer H3 when she struck a bicyclist.
The female bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Ada County coroner has identified the victim as 48-year-old Sarah Howard of Meridian. She died from traumatic head injury. An autopsy was completed this afternoon.
Traffic on Eagle and Overland road was tied up for about two hours due to the accident investigation and emergency response.
Janzen was taken to St. Luke's Hospital to be tested to determine if drugs or alcohol was in her system at the time of the accident.
Police says witnesses saw the Hummer hit the bike, but they don't know why.
The accident remains under investigation. No charges have been filed yet.
