CALDWELL -- Caldwell Police say they've arrested a gang member that walked away from work release months ago.

About 6:25 p.m. Wednesday, 18-year-old Alejandro Benito Almeida and a 17-year-old male juvenile ran away when their car was stopped by police at 9th and Blaine. The juvenile was caught soon afterward in a nearby store.

About 45 minutes later, officers spotted Almeida near 12th and Arthur. He tried to flee police but was caught about a block away.

Almeida failed to return from the Canyon County Work Release Center in July. Police say he is a wanted documented gang member.

He was booked in the Canyon County Jail on charges of escape, aggravated battery, robbery and resisting officers.

The 17-year-old male with him is being held on a probation violation, resisting officers and concealed weapon charges.
