City says residents near Amity Rd. blaze can build fire wall

BOISE - Residents in Southeast Boise affected by the recent wildfire will get the fire wall they've been asking for.
Boise officials approved an order that allows neighbors to build a fire break retaining wall up to 12 feet high downhill from their homes.
The request required a special hearing because city codes only allow for six foot fences and walls in residential areas.
A fire near Amity Road destroyed nine homes and burned another ten, and left one person dead. The fire started during a windstorm when hot metal dripped from a power pole onto dry grass. Flames quickly spread through the field and ripped through the homes.
