BOISE - Dozens of Idaho inmates held in Oklahoma and Texas are back in the Gem State.

The Idaho Department of Correction says it completed the move of 80 inmates Monday night.

The prisoners had been held at the North Fork Correctional Facility in Sayre, Oklahoma, and the Bill Clayton Detention Center in Littlefield, Texas.

Tonight, they're behind bars at the Idaho State Correctional Institution south of Boise.

Idaho has been sending inmates out of state for nearly three years because of a lack of space at facilities here.

More than 630 inmates remain at the prisons in Oklahoma and Texas.

The correction department says the move may be due to a decline in Idaho's overall inmate population.

The number of offenders in state custody has gone down from a high of 7467 on May 17th of this year to 7293 today.
