BOISE - The Idaho Farm Bureau wants a law passed next year requiring
gasoline retailers to exclusively sell fuel with 10-percent ethanol
content.
The bureau says the law would help clean the air, generate income for
the state's agricultural community and reduce dependence on foreign oil.
Ethanol is made from plants, such as corn.
Other states in the country already require a minimum ethanol content
for gasoline.
Farm Bureau lobbyist Russ Hendricks says the requirement is no different
from government-imposed drinking water standards.
People against the plan say a requirement for ethanol gas would create
logistical problems and may raise the cost of gasoline.
