More than 10,000 people smashed their way in to the Boise Towne Square for 1 a.m. shopping
BOISE - It's the biggest shopping day of the year and the Boise Towne Square Mall says today's crowd was one of the largest they've ever seen.
The mall opened its doors to nearly 10,000 people… at 1 a.m.!
Thousands lined up to be one of the first 500 hundred people to receive a gift bag.
The crowd was so large mall officials called in Boise Police to handle crowd control. As thousands of people tried to cram their way through the front doors, many were scraped and bruised as people pushed to get in.
Mall security officials say some doors were broken, and some people got hurt.
Some of the people lined up as early as Thanksgiving afternoon.
But eventually people did actually do some shopping.
Mall managers say if they do this event again, they will do it differently.
"We probably wouldn't do the 500 hundred shopping bags,” Darcy Shippy with General Growth Properties said. “We just didn't anticipate the crowd being quiet so pushy. Literally I was out there letting in the first 500 hundred people in and literally almost got pushed over by people."
Mall officials tell us Boise Police were there most of the day. They even called in ambulances and firefighters to deal with the crowds.
