UPDATE: Labor Department phones working again

04:44 PM MST on Tuesday, November 18, 2008

BOISE -- The Idaho Department of Labor's phone system is operating normally again, but customers calling in to weekly unemployment insurance claims or speak with consultants may still experience some delays.

Earlier today, the department reported it was having technical difficulties with its phone system.

“Our goal is to make sure everyone entitled to a benefit check receives the full amount due them in a timely manner,” Department Director Roger Madsen said.

If you are having trouble filing a claim over the phone, you can file online or go to their nearest local office and file in person.

Officials say the situation has been exacerbated by a $400,000 reduction in federal money that has resulted in the department’s inability to fill vacant positions for network engineers.

The department says it is taking steps to ensure that no unemployment insurance claimants lose any weeks of compensation they are entitled to.
