Boise mortgage broker told to cease and desist

BOISE -- The Idaho Department of Finance has issued a cease and desist order for Boise-based mortgage broker DMI Funding Inc., also known as Direct Mortgage.

The department says the company left dozens of boxes filled with loan applications unattended outside Western Recycling in Boise.

The department says the boxes contained personal and financial information of at least 100 people.

At this time, it appears no one's information has been misused but the department says it posed a huge identity theft risk.

Investigators say a private person bought the sensitive documents at an auction because the mortgage company failed to pay storage unit costs.

The company must now notify everyone whose information may have been exposed.
