A World War II prisoner of war who never made it back home to Emmett was honored Friday.

Senator Larry Craig presented the nephew of Orval Kelso with a flag that once flew over the U.S. Capitol.

Kelso was a Morrison Knudsen employee during World War II.

He worked as a power plant operator on Wake Island in the Pacific Ocean.

In 1941, it was attacked by the Imperial Japanese Army -- and those on the island were captured.

Barry Kelso worked for years to make sure his uncle and other prisoners of war got the recognition they deserve.

"What I would like to see for all of our men, that served especially during WWII, and any civilian POW, I would like to see some action or legislation pushed, to award the Purple Heart because some of those guys were killed over nothing in camp," said Kelso.

Orval Kelso died as a prisoner of war.  If he were alive today, he would be 105 years old.
