CHESTERFIELD, ID - A historic Oregon Trail store in this 127-year-old Mormon pioneer town between Lava Hot Springs and Soda Springs sells only products its proprietors say were available before 1916.
Chesterfield has enjoyed a resurgence in interest since it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.
Among products at the Nathan Barlow Log Store: snake oil -- said to make old men young and young women frisky.
Other items sold by shopkeepers Judy and Larren Nelson is Coca-Cola in 1897-style bottles, sarsaparilla, penny candy, quilts and jams and jellies canned by local people.
Judy Nelson says, "We can have plain Hershey bars because they came out in 1905, but we can't have them with almonds because they came out in 1922."
Chesterfield's remaining buildings include an amusement hall and a Mormon tithing office.
