Idaho school says it will cut down junk mail
03:29 PM MDT on Friday, November 2, 2007
People who get their mail on campus at the University of Idaho will soon see a lot less junk.
The school will no longer pass along junk mail to students, faculty or staff – starting January 1st. School officials say delivering all the unwanted mail costs them both money and time.
The school will make contact with the top source of all the junk to ask that they stop – and inform them the unsolicited mail will end up in the recycling pile.
"We also will offer an 'opt-out' registry for bulk mail distributed from on-campus sources on a department by department basis," said UI’s Darin Saul. "This will include mail and flyers distributed by University of Idaho entities to the broader campus through the mail system."
The University itself will also try to cut down on the amount of junk mail it sends out – doing more communication by e-mail.
