Man catches burglar, attacked with screwdriver
12:26 PM MDT on Wednesday, May 14, 2008
Robert Allen Cox, 19
BOISE - Police say a man broke into a vehicle this morning - and four people swung into action to keep the suspect from getting away.
It happened just before 2 a.m. near Liberty and Morris Hill. A call to dispatch said that the burglary was in progress. When officers arrived - they found three witnesses and the victim in the burglary holding onto the suspect.
Officers say the vehicle owner walked outside to get something out of his car when he saw the suspect, Robert Allen Cox, 19 of Boise sitting in the driver's seat with a screwdriver. The victim said it appeared Cox was trying to pry out the car stereo.
When the victim walked up to his car - police say Cox lunged at him with the screwdriver and began punching him.
The victim pinned Cox to the ground and called his friends, who helped keep Cox at bay and called police.
The four men in their 20s did not know the would-be burglar, according to police.
The victim went to a local hospital for treatment - officers say it appears he suffered a head injury during the struggle. It does not appear the injuries are life threatening.
Cox is charged with two felony counts of burglary and aggravated battery.
