NAMPA– A Nampa man is being held in the Canyon County Jail after police say he tried to set his wife on fire Tuesday evening.
Officers say 28-year-old Michael Hart got into a fight with his wife around 6:24 p.m. at their Nampa home at 94 S. Rolling Green Street.
According to court documents, the woman told police that Hart held her against her will, threatened her with a knife, choked her, threw lighter fluid on her and lit her on fire. He then lit the couple’s bed on fire, destroying some of her personal belongings.
This all occurred while two young children were in the home.
Hart left the house after the fight, but returned nearly five hours later. Police were called and searched the home. Around 11:15 p.m. officers found Hart hiding in the attic above the garage.
He was booked into the Canyon County Jail on nine different criminal charges including attempted murder, kidnapping, arson, felony injury to a child, malicious injury to property and resisting and obstructing an officer.
He was arraigned on the charges this afternoon and remains in jail until a May 16th preliminary hearing.
The woman who reported the attack is reportedly OK, and did not have to be taken to a hospital for treatment.
