This giant boulder is blocking the road to Yellow Pine, making travel in and out of the small town difficult.
YELLOW PINE - The road to Yellow Pine is blocked today -- after a massive boulder blocked the main route from McCall to the tiny Idaho town.
Rain and snow in the area loosened the soil around the boulder - causing it to tumble down the mountain early this week, blocking East Fork Rd.
The Valley County Road Department says the boulder is so big that a bulldozer wouldn't be effective in moving it out of the way.
A contractor will be brought in to assess the best way to clear the rock. The best option right now appears to be to drill a hole in the boulder, stick dynamite in and blow it up. The contractor is being brought in from Portland - and is en route today. It isn't known when the explosion may happen.
A private resident cut a temporary route through private property around the boulder. Only residents with an ATV or four wheel drive are able to navigate the temporary road.
About ten residents live in Yellow Pine during the winter months.
