Lottery: $200K Powerball ticket sold in Idaho about to expire
11:51 AM MDT on Monday, June 30, 2008
BOISE -- Idaho Lottery officials say a Powerball ticket sold in Malad for the January 26, 2008 draw has yet to be claimed and is set to expire in just a few weeks.
Once a draw occurs players have 180 days to claim their prizes. In this case, the deadline for the winner to come forward in July 23, 2008.
Lottery officials are encouraging players that live in the Malad area along the Idaho-Utah border - to check their tickets carefully. They believe, based on past history, that the winner could be from Utah.
Malad is next to Interstate 15 and connects to large population centers in Utah and eastern Idaho.
The winning numbers for that night were 11, 35, 39, 53, 54, and the Powerball was 24. The winning ticket matched all five of the first numbers but not the Powerball.
“We have had large, six-figure prizes go unclaimed in the past because people do not carefully check their numbers,” said Jeff Anderson, Idaho Lottery Director. “While this ticket did not match the Powerball, it did match every other number and is worth $200,000.”
Nearly three years ago, a $200,000 winning ticket sold in Fish Haven went unclaimed.
And in the spring of 2006, another $200,000 winning prize sold at an Albertsons in Caldwell - also went unclaimed.
Unclaimed lottery winnings are given back to Idaho in the form of an annual dividend that goes to Idaho’s public schools and buildings.
