Eastern Idaho county to reconsider morning-after pill refusal
10:27 AM MDT on Monday, June 12, 2006
REXBURG -- Commissioners of eastern Idaho's Madison County today will be reconsidering their decision to opt out of participation in distribution of the "morning after" contraception pill program. Commissioners Robert Hansen and Ralph Robison decided the county health district's Family Planning Services would not offer the emergency contraception pill. They made the decision without holding a public meeting or gathering public input. That prompted the resignation of the chairman of the district health board and questions from area media whether the commission violated Idaho's open meeting law. Commission Chairman Roger Muir said the county panel today will discuss whether the decision should be made in a public forum.
