Ada County neighborhood battles bunny problem

10:14 AM MDT on Wednesday, July 26, 2006

Associated Press

BOISE -- Residents in the Eagle Springs Estates neighborhood of Ada County have a rapidly multiplying problem on their hands -- bunnies.

Residents say the rabbits are overtaking the neighborhood.

Monique Hale often goes on walks around the neighborhood. She sees at least one every day in her yard, and she's counted up to 56 bunnies during her daily walk.

Some suspect the population began after someone in the neighborhood released pet bunnies.

What is known is that the rascally rabbits are digging holes in yards, eating the roots of bushes and generally making a mess.

Local animal control officials say they just don't have the man power to take care of rabbits.

But the Humane Society says people can use live traps to catch the bunnies and bring them in for adoption.
