Release of convicted sex offender concerns community

ONTARIO, Ore. -- About to be released from jail, a convicted sex offender accused of making a list of young girls to look up, will be put on probation and the district attorney says they can't do anything about it.
Malheur County authorities say the list written by Christopher Dwayne Watson included the names of 32 local girls - ages 6 to 17.
Watson has been locked up in the Malheur County Jail for the past 90 days for committing a sex crime with a minor.
Now out of jail, he will be staying in Ontario until he is taken back to his home state of Georgia.
Aaron Hartman, the director for Community Corrections says deputies are taking extra precautions with Watson’s release - outfitting him with an ankle bracelet to track his moves while he's in Oregon.
"We're preparing a GPS system. That will include the names of the parents on the list. We're putting in exclusion zones for that. We also restrict sex offenders to certain areas. So we'll be putting those in also," said Hartman.
Hartman says since NewsChannel first ran this story Thursday night, Malheur County has fielded many calls from concerned parents in Ontario.
"I tell people to always be concerned. I tell people they should always pay attention to what they're kids are doing. Especially in the information age that we have cell phones, Web sites, it’s hard to find a child who doesn't have a MySpace site," said Hartman.
Watson is on supervised probation for the next 36 months.
Hartman says the county has contacted Georgia officials in an attempt to send Watson back to that state.
Usually when someone is sent back to another state, they are required to make their own transportation arrangements.
But because of the list, Malheur County is now working with Boise Police and the airport to get him a flight back to Georgia as soon as his transfer is accepted. It’s unclear when that will be.
Authorities believe Watson read newspaper articles about the girls to come up with his list.
