Rain showers had minimal effect on wildfire threat statewide

BOISE -- Federal land managers say the rain that fell across much of Idaho this week did little to lessen the threat of wildfires.
Greg Mann, fuels specialist with the Bureau of Land Management, says it's typical to expect some short-term effect on fuels after a significant rainfall.
But he says the extended stretch of dry weather the last month means one large storm doesn't a significant impact on fire behavior because vegetation on the ground can dry quickly.
A series of thunderstorms that swept across central and southern Idaho Tuesday dumped rain and hail, and in some cases triggered mudslides and flash flooding.
Still, as of Wednesday, Idaho firefighters were battling three fires across the state.
