Boise air quality close to orange alert
03:24 PM MDT on Thursday, July 24, 2008
BOISE - The greater Boise is teetering on the edge of an orange air quality alert - as the muck in the air above the Treasure Valley is expected to be just one point under the unhealthy mark.
The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality says tomorrow's air quality is expected to be at the very top of the yellow scale, with an air quality index of 100. The moderate or orange category starts with an AQI of 101.
Warmer temperatures are helping boost ozone levels across Valley skies, and wildfires across the west continue to blow heavy levels of high particulate matter into the area.
The DEQ says folks should postpone strenuous activates until the air gets better - and consider cutting down on unneeded driving. They also suggest waiting to mow the lawn until air quality improves.
Idaho's Chief Meteorologist Rick Lantz says warm weather will stay with us through the weekend, with highs nearing 100 degrees.
