Allison’s amazing medical journey

BOISE -- She learned how to walk just two years ago and now a local 6-year-old is headed for the White House to play in a tee-ball all-star game.

Later this month, the president and first lady will host the annual all-star game that gives 51 young tee-ball players a chance to show their stuff.

NewsChannel 7 caught up with the young athlete representing Idaho who happens to be from Boise.

Six-year-old Allison was chosen out of hundreds of entries to be part of the annual event.

She's excited for the trip but is even more excited that she is able to play a sport.

“To see her how she is now, how she runs, she's just a normal little girl, it’s great to see,” said Jeff Dustin, Mountain View Little League president.

Allison loves to be active and outdoors, playing tee ball with her brother and even racing him.

But racing and sports haven't always been easy for Allison.

When her parents brought her home from China she had an untreated case of club feet.

"Her feet were literally turned backwards and almost upside down," said Joyce, Allison's mom.

Allison's parents found few doctors that could heal their daughter without major surgery, until they found Dr. Ponseti at the University of Iowa Children's Hospital.

Ponseti uses casts to gently manipulate the feet.

"She was cast for a total of five months and she had to figure out how to walk again, and let me tell you seeing her take those first steps was a glorious day," said Joyce.

Now two years later Allison can't stay off her feet!

"She has been waiting a long time and finally this spring got the OK from her doctor to play her first sport," said Craig, Allison's dad.

And that first sport, tee-ball is taking her to Washington, D.C. where she will play on the White House lawn.

"Out of all the applications that they got, Allison was number one," said Dustin.

"I think its really cool and most people don't get to do that," said Jason, Allison's brother.

Jason can't wait to cheer her on, but he has some tips for his younger sister.

"Just play really good and not try and mess up," said Jason.

“It’s just a great thing and a great tribute to the medical journey she has gone through and where she is today, we are very excited for this,” said Joyce.

The president will not only sit in the stands and cheer on the young athletes but he will present each player with a signed baseball.

The tee-ball all-star game is on July 16th.

The Mountain View Little League says this is the first time someone from the district has been invited.

They are hoping to raise enough money to fund the family's trip to Washington, D.C.
