BOISE - Stacy Dragila is off to a strong start as she seeks to return to the Olympics eight years after winning a gold medal in Sydney. The Idaho native posted a strong vault Thursday night in Eugene, OR during the USA Track & Field Olympic Trials.

Dragila cleared each of the progressive heights – 4.10 meters, 4.20 meters and 4.30 meters, good enough to pass her through to the semi-finals along with 10 other women.

"It was fun being out there and being in a big competition again,” the Pocatello native said. “I tried to execute and I think I did better than I expected.”

Windy conditions added an air of uncertainty to the event.

“We didn't know what to expect (with the wind) and I always try to play it safe. Now I just need to rest up for the finals."

University of Idaho graduate Melinda Owen jumped the same progressive heights to qualify as well.

The finals event is set for Sunday afternoon.

With Dragila and Owen on the verge, six Idahoans are already set for the Games. Cyclist Kristin Armsrong, dressage rider Debbie McDonald, 800m racer Nick Symmonds, mountain biker Georgia Gould, shot putter Joachim Olsen, and hurdler Angela Whyte are all locked in.
