BOISE - Two Boise TV stations will soon have one common owner if the government signs off on the deal.

Journal Communications announced it has inked a deal to buy KNIN Channel 9 for $8 million.  KNIN is currently owned by Banks Broadcasting, and offers up CW Network programming across the Boise area.

Journal owns KIVI Channel 6, as well as six radio stations, including 94.9 The River, 100.3 The X, J-105, 107.1 K-Hits, 1140 KGEM and KCID-AM.

“The acquisition of KNIN is on strategy and gives us an opportunity to build out cross-platform businesses in Boise, one of the country’s fastest growing markets,” Doug Kiel, Journal Broadcast Group CEO said in a prepared statement.

Banks Broadcasting says the deal is good for employees and viewers.

“KNIN has a terrific and hardworking staff. I’m particularly pleased that KNIN is being turned over to an experienced broadcasting company whose leadership has a real commitment to the Boise market, the local community and to its employees," Lyle Banks, chairman of Banks Broadcasting said in a prepared statement.

The purchase is subject to approval from the Federal Communications Commission.

Journal Communications owns television, newspaper and radio properties in a number of markets across the US. KNIN launched in 1992 as independent station KHDT-TV, and joined the fledgling UPN network in 1995 before switching affiliations to the CW in 2006.
