BOISE - Sunday’s blast of snow sent many scrambling for the ski slopes – but the only road to Bogus Basin was closed for an hour Sunday – after a major crash.

The head-on accident backed up traffic for more than two miles in both directions.  The accident happened just after 1 p.m. on Bogus Basin Rd. just north of the Idaho Governor’s Mansion on Simplot hill.

Crews from Boise Police, Boise Fire and the Ada County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of the accident – with a car and SUV involved.

Paramedics transported four people to local hospitals – and animal control officers took a dog into their care.

The condition and names of those involved is not being released to the public at this time.  Fire crews say the icy conditions helped contribute to the crash.

“Bogus Basin Road is unique in the area because it is often cold and icy it can be sandy on the road, “ Boise Fire Department Battalion Chief Bruce Rankin said. “Stay in your lane, don't pass - just common rules of the road that we seem to have forgotten in a lot of cases.”

Rankin said drivers were very understanding during the hold up this afternoon.

Police are investigating the crash and still trying to determine which car crossed the center line.
