Plexus operates a large manufacturing plant in Nampa.

NAMPA - A Nampa-based electronics manufacturer is cutting its workforce amid worsening economic conditions.

Plexus, Inc. confirms it laid off 35 employees this week as part of an overall reduction in force - including 35 full time employees and another 100 contracted part-time workers. The company says the 100 part-time workers are contractors - and are used on an as-needed basis.

"It's something we regret doing, but something we felt was needed in this economic environment," Plexus CFO Ginger Jones tells KTVB.COM.

After the reductions, 460 employees remain at the Nampa facility.

Plexus is a contract manufacturer of electronic products - including those for medical customers, the telecommunications industry and industrial companies. The products include components and finished products for others.

Jones said Plexus officials hope that they will be able to gear back up in the future.

"We are very committed to the Nampa site, we like the area and the workforce - we hope to be able grow there in the future," she said.

Plexus has locations around the country - including in Wisconsin, Massachusetts, Colorado, California and across the world.
