Otter drops sponsorship of federal land sale bill
06:22 PM MST on Thursday, January 5, 2006
WASHINGTON -- Congressman Butch Otter says he still wants the federal government to carry its own weight in Idaho, but a bill he originally co-sponsored is the wrong way to go about it. Otter is dropping his support of a bill that would instruct the Forest Service and Department of Interior to sell 15 percent of the land they own. Otter's support of the bill was criticized by Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jerry Brady and others. Now Otter agrees and says “I was wrong, it wasn't the first time and it won't be the last.” He is withdrawing his co-sponsorship and support of HR 3855.
