BOISE -- It was a big day at Channel 7 as 31,000 pounds of frozen chicken arrived at the KTVB parking lot this morning.
And with the help of volunteers - it was given to three hunger relief agencies.
Thanks to the generous donations of Lift Up America and Tyson Foods, the chicken was given to the Idaho Foodbank, the Boise Rescue Mission and the Salvation Army.
It’s enough chicken to feed thousands of hungry Idahoans for the next two months.
Lift Up America and Tyson Foods picked Boise as one of more than a dozen cities to receive the chicken.
Today, volunteers from KTVB and the community helped divvy up the poultry.
"This is a fantastic donation and we are very appreciative and grateful to accept it, it is going to make a huge difference. We see a need in Nampa up 40 to 50 percent. New families coming in, we get the story I am sorry I have never had to come for help before, so they have to humble themselves. So it's going to be a great need in supplementing some of the donations we receive canned food and alike," said Capt. Mark King, Nampa Salvation Army.
The donation is part of a nation wide effort to distribute one million pounds of chicken.
