NAMPA -- A terminally ill southwest Idaho man died in prison despite attempts by his family to use a medical parole plan that would have allowed him to die at home with his family.

Baldemar Moreno, 40, died Nov. 28 of cancer in a medical cell at the Idaho State Correctional Institution in Boise. He had been serving six years for possession of a controlled substance.

His mother, Dora Garza, says she thought the family had met all the requirements that would have allowed her son to be taken home in an ambulance.

But officials with the Idaho Commission of Pardons and Parole say that the family failed to provide documentation that Moreno would receive medical care once he was released.
