Moscow police chief: New jail proposal will wait
11:19 AM MST on Wednesday, December 3, 2008
MOSCOW -- Moscow Police Chief Dan Weaver says the current rough economy may mean that a proposed city-county joint law enforcement building will have to wait.
Weaver says if residents are worried about putting food on the table, they're not likely to want to fund new facilities.
Latah County Commission Chairman Tom Stroschein said he agreed that waiting for the new building may be the best course, and that he is unwilling to ask the public to raise property taxes for a new building right now.
Local law enforcement leaders had already identified five potential sites for the joint building, with their first choice location costing around $3.8 million.
The cost of building was estimated at between $16 million and $20 million.
