Woman gets probation for deadly Hummer accident

BOISE -- A Boise woman who hit and killed a bicyclist at a Meridian intersection last fall will spend the next ten years on probation, one year under house arrest and lose her driving privileges in Idaho for life.
Erika Hanson, 44, pleaded guilty in July to a charge of vehicular manslaughter. She was sentenced Wednesday before 4th District Judge Mike Wetherell.
Hanson admitted hitting Sarah Howard, 48, of Meridian, with her Hummer at Overland and Eagle roads on October 19, 2007. Howard died from her injuries.
Hanson apologized to the victim's family during Wednesday's sentencing hearing.
Police say Hanson was under the influene of prescription narcotic drugs at the time of the accident. She failed several field sobriety tests after the crash.
Wetherell told Hanson that is she is ever caught driving in Idaho she will be forced to serve out the remainder of her sentence in prison.
