Idaho city mulls ban on pit bulls

AMERICAN FALLS -- Officials in American Falls are mulling tough new restrictions on pit bulls.
The city council hosted a public hearing Wednesday on a proposal to bolster the city's existing animal control ordinance to deal specifically with the breed.
Details of the proposal include a ban on new pit bulls in city limits and tighter restrictions for residents of the eastern Idaho city who already own the dogs.
Council chairman Norman Wright says the city is studying existing ordinances already on the books in other cities.
The drive to toughen rules for pit bulls follows an increase in complaints and troublesome interactions with the dogs.
In the last year, 10 cases or aggressive dogs killing other animals has been reported. A police officer was also injured in an attack.
