The Nampa bomb squad was called to Weiser today - after a bag was found at a yard sale - containing sticks of dynamite and blast caps.

Crews respond to a report of found dynamite near Weiser

The Weiser police and fire department evacuated the neighborhood while the bomb squad was called in.

Officers estimate the dynamite was very old and may have been from the 1940's.

They say that added an extra danger to the situation.

"The concern is when you get aged dynamite like that - the stability of the substance,” Gregory Earl Moon Weiser Police Chief said. “Certainly we're not in a position to evaluate that.  That's why we call in the bomb guys to take a look."

The bomb squad was able to destroy the dynamite by setting it on fire.

The Weiser Fire Department remained on hand in case the fire got out of control.
