Fire surrounds camp

BOISE - Major fires across Idaho are on the move, forcing numerous towns to evacuate-. Numerous fires are aggressively burning in the Boise and Payette National Forests.
For the first time in years, Idaho's governor has stepped in - calling for the evacuation of Yellow Pine - a small town near the Landmark Complex Fire.
Three major fire complexes are burning right now in the Payette and Boise National Forests: the East Zone, north of McCall, the Cascade Complex and the Landmark Complex moving toward the town of Yellow Pine.
The Boise National Forest says right now their main concern is the safety of firefighters and residents.
"In all the wildfires that we've had so far this year, knock on wood, we haven't lost a life," said Gov. Butch Otter.
Tuesday morning, Otter issued a mandatory evacuation order for Yellow Pine and the Johnson Creek Area.
Both are in the path of the growing Landmark Complex Fire, 30 miles southwest of McCall.
"This is the first time in recent history where the governor has made a proclamation for a mandatory evacuation," said David Olson with the Boise National Forest.
Many residents began evacuating the area on Monday but those we spoke with say it has been a confusing process.
"The information trail has just been terrible, communication has been terrible we have people up in the Boise Valley that have family up in Yellow Pine, they're calling up thinking that we're all on fire here and so it's been kind of a mess," said Steve Holloway owner of the Yellow Pine General Store and the Silver Dollar Grill both in Yellow Pine.
South of Yellow Pine near Warm Lake, the Cascade Complex Fire surrounded the incident command post Monday night and scorched a few tents along with historic structures at Knox Ranch.
Fortunately no one was hurt and firefighters were prepared.
"The folks that were non firefighters went to the center of the meadow and firefighters worked to keep it from burning into the camp," Olson said.
The Zena Loon fire north of McCall that is part of the East Zone Complex grew by nearly 60,000 acres over the weekend.
The towns of Secesh and Warren are still under evacuation orders.
"There was a couple of cabins that were burned Saturday in Warren and fires right near homes in Secesh on Sunday due to embers coming down in the meadow," Olson said.
Olson says it could be awhile before these fires burning in the Payette and Boise National Forests are under control.
"They are very aggressive and moving rapidly and challenging to deal with and we just have exceptionally dry conditions. We are going to see fire activity in these areas of the state for some time to come," Olson said.
Although the evacuations are mandatory it’s ultimately up to residents.
If they choose to stay with their homes, they sign a paper with Valley County, stating they're responsible for their own safety and property. Many residents chose to stay in Yellow Pine.
