EAGLE - An Eagle man is dead after a car hit a motorcycle head-on at Highway 44 just west of Eagle Road this morning.
The crash happened before 9 a.m., killing 53-year-old Jared Higginson, a well-known local horseman and father of four children. Higginson was on his way to work at Flynn's Saddle Shop in Boise when the accident occurred.
The male driver of a white 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass is now at a local hospital being treated for non-life threatening injuries. He is a Garden City man in his early 60s.
Jared Higginson, 53, died Wednesday morning when his motorcycle was struck head-on along Highway 44 in Eagle.
Eagle Police Chief Brian Hippe say the driver of the Oldsmobile was westbound on Highway 44, when for unknown reasons, he crossed several lanes of traffic and slammed head-on into the motorcycle. Higginson was thrown from the bike and pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a helmet.
Hippe said it was a very violent crash. The speed limit on that stretch of the highway is 55 miles per hour.
Highway 44 (State Street) was closed for hours between Ballantyne and Linder roads to allow an accident reconstruction team to detail the crash scene.
Deputies are working to determine what caused the driver of the Oldsmobile to travel across the road and into oncoming traffic. A decision on charges and/or citations will not be made until that investigation is complete.
