A Kellogg, Idaho man died Monday afternoon in a rollover accident on Interstate 84 in eastern Oregon.
Oregon State Police troopers say a 72-year-old Idaho man died Monday afternoon in an unusual crash on Interstate 84 west of Hermiston.
Sgt. Allan Muhs says around 3 p.m. a 2000 Ford Ranger pickup driven by Janie Michaud, 45, of Kellogg, Idaho, was eastbound on I-84 near milepost 175 with her uncle, Walter Ross.
Ross was sleeping when he suddenly awoke and yelled the driver's name, grabbed the steering wheel causing the pickup to veer to the left into the gravel median shoulder. He then jerked the steering wheel hard right causing the pickup to go back across the interstate onto the right shoulder and crashing through a fence, coming to a rest on its top.
Ross was pronounced deceased at the scene. Police say he was wearing a seat belt.
Michaud was also wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries. She was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
