BOISE -- A soldier and former Borah High School graduate was honored this morning four days after he died in Iraq.

A moment of silence was held for Sgt. Michael T. Lilly, 23, who was killed Monday by enemy forces.

Today, the school decided to honor him with a moment of silence as thousands of students watched.

Sgt. Lilly is the third Borah alumnus to die in the war in Iraq.

Lilly’s senior picture was shown to the crowd of students and students cheered in honor of his sacrifice.

Sgt. Michael T. Lilly, 23, of Boise, died Monday in Iraq.

Former Ada County Coroner and Borah graduate Mike Johnson is called the father of the memorial he helped design and organize.

We talked with Johnson and some students about today’s special event.

"Nobody wants war but I think what's great now with this new generation is their willingness to join and to serve fully knowing we have a conflict," said Johnson.

"By having this moment of silence it pretty touching and I know I appreciate it," said Sean Kelley, Borah High senior.

"I feel really bad actually. His brother is my fellow cadet his brothers close to me too. When I heard he passed away it hit me pretty hard just like him, I fell really bad for him actually," said Jason Henze, Borah High sophomore.

Sgt. Lilly’s family was in attendance for the moment of silence.

Johnson says he hasn't had time to speak with the family but will talk to them soon to find out when they would like Sgt. Lilly’s name added to the memorial of honor.

Another Idaho family is mourning the loss of a soldier killed last weekend in Iraq.

Funeral services for Maj. Stuart A. Wolfer, 36, from Emmett, is being held today in Des Moines, Iowa.

Wolfer was killed in Baghdad on April 6.  He leaves behind a wife and three young daughters.

A memorial fund for Wolfer's daughters has been set up at local Wells Fargo bank branches.

Also, a fund for Sgt. Lilly's family is at local Key bank branches.
