Sgt. Michael T. Lilly, 23, of Boise, died Monday in Iraq.

BOISE -- Students and faculty at Borah High School are organizing a special event Friday dedicated to a former student who died in the line of duty.

On Wednesday, we learned Sgt. Michael T. Lilly, 23, of Boise, is the second Idahoan killed in Iraq this week.  Maj. Stuart Wolfer, 36, of Emmett died on Sunday.

Lilly died Monday after being hit by a rocket propelled grenade.

Lilly graduated from Borah High School in 2002 and married a woman from Boise.

Now, students want to remember him with a moment of silence.

Borah High principal Greg Frederick says a monument dedicated to former students who have died in the Iraq will now sadly get another name.

"Our hearts are with the family, our sympathies. It’s just one of those things. Mike represented Borah High in a very positive way, and obviously he represented our country," said Frederick.

Sgt. Lilly is the third Borah alumnus to die in the war in Iraq.

His father said that he was on his second enlistment and was planning on enlisting for a third time.

The moment of silence will be held Friday at 10:15 a.m. during an awards assembly for students.

Lilly’s name will be added to the monument in the coming months.

We were told that faculty around the school have been talking about the Lilly and asking what they remembered about him.

The deaths of Lilly and Wolfer bring the total number of Idaho troops killed in the war to 31.

A memorial fund for Sgt. Lilly's family has been set up at local Key Bank branches.
