Navy Commander Philip Murphy-Sweet was killed Saturday in Baghdad by a roadside bomb.
BOISE -- Another U.S. sailor with Idaho ties has died in Iraq.
This is in addition to three other sailors based out of Washington, including one from Burley, who were killed in Iraq late last week.
The Department of Defense says Commander Philip Murphy-Sweet was killed Saturday by a roadside bomb attack in Baghdad.
The 42-year-old was serving a six-month assignment he volunteered for and was set to return home next month.
He lived in Pennsylvania and leaves behind a wife and three children.
Murphy-Sweet attended the University of Idaho and graduated in 1991.
While there, he was part of the Naval ROTC program.
His parents still live here in the Treasure Valley.
His co-workers at the naval base in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania say Murphy-Sweet was a great mentor and leader who taught others how to be good naval officers.
We’ll hear more from those who worked closely with Murphy-Sweet tonight on the News at Five and Six.
Funeral arrangements for Murphy-Sweet will be announced later this week, but the plans include a burial at Arlington National Cemetery.
