Al Roker will visit Boise Monday as part of its Lend a Hand Today series

BOISE - The Today Show is coming to Boise - and will bring along a big boost for a local charity. But many of the details... are still a secret.

Monday, Al Roker will broadcast live from an as-yet undisclosed location in the Boise area. The show is bringing its Lend a Hand Today program to the Treasure Valley, and will bring along a large Penske truck loaded with goods for one lucky local charity.

"The big idea is to give a small charity some national visibility," Megan Kopf with NBC said. "It's a way to give a charity exposure to someone in New York or Washington DC that they might not heard of. We like to give (them) some national visibility and make people more aware of it, not just in the community but across the country."

Dozens of corporate sponsors have donated goods to the program - including Columbia Sportswear, Nike, Chrysler, GM, JC Penny and others.

Kopf was tight-lipped about the details, but did say the local charity involves kids. The charity already knows about the big gift - but NBC is waiting to tell the world until Monday morning.

The program is in its seventh year - and producers decided to set their sights on Boise.

"We take a look at the map and we come up with locations and research charities," Kopf said. "We make sure that we are giving them what they need for their charity and donate specific items geared to their needs."

The live broadcast will start at 5 a.m. mountain time - with the "big reveal" set for the 6 a.m. hour. Meteorologist Larry Gebert will also broadcast live from the charity during Today's Morning News. The Today Show will air on tape delay beginning at 7 a.m. in Boise.

This year’s tour will also stop in Boulder, Albuquerque, Oklahoma City and Atlanta. The program has raised $550,000 in donations for the five day event.
