Burley City Council pays for broken windshield
04:43 PM MDT on Saturday, July 5, 2008
BURLEY--The Burley City Council has approved paying to replace a car windshield that a motorist says was broken by an errant golf ball as she drove by the city's municipal golf course.
City council members voted 6-1 to approve the $214.30 expense on Tuesday despite warnings by Burley Deputy City Attorney Dave Shirley that it could set a precedent compelling the city to pay for future accidents.
Burley resident Ana Yemets says she drove by the Burley Municipal Golf Course several months ago when a Titleist golf ball hit and destroyed the windshield of her 1988 Buick LeSabre. Yemets says she had to borrow money to replace the windshield because the golfer disappeared.
