Two BASE jumpers suffer minor injuries in Idaho mishap
05:00 PM MDT on Sunday, September 10, 2006
TWIN FALLS, Idaho — Two men jumping with parachutes from the 486-foot Perrine Bridge near Twin Falls suffered only scratches and a dunking after they became entangled during their descent.
The Twin Falls County Sheriff's Department, emergency crews, and a Life Flight helicopter rushed to the Snake River yesterday evening when a nine-one-one caller reported one jumper in the water and another on the rocks.
A witness said the jumpers' parachutes wrapped around each other.
One jumper hit the land while the other landed on his back in the river.
The emergency helicopter's crew returned to the hospital after learning the pair suffered only minor injuries. There are thousands of jumps at the Perrine Bridge every year without incident.
At least three people have died, however, including a California woman who was among dozens of jumpers in Twin Falls for a Memorial Day weekend event.
