Carjacking suspect in custody after Caldwell standoff

CALDWELL -- A man accused of stealing an SUV at gunpoint last week was taken into custody after a standoff in Caldwell Thursday.

Schools were locked down and the public was warned to stay away during the standoff with 40-year-old Kenny T. McDonald,. McDonald initially refused to come out of a home, but surrendered to the Canyon COunty Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Marshals Greater Idaho Fugitive Task Force.

MCDonald is accused of brandishing a handgun and taking a 2011 Dodge Durango from a victim in Boise last Friday.

The sheriff's office says schools will be notified that they can end their lockdowns.
