Police look for witnesses after pedestrian hit by pickup

BOISE -- Boise police are investigating a crash on Fairview Avenue involving a pickup truck and a pedestrian.

The accident happened just east of Cloverdale Road around 9:15 a.m. Tuesday.

Several witnesses told police that a man ran into heavy traffic while trying to cross Fairview Avenue near Dawn Drive. There are no traffic signals or crosswalks where he was trying to cross the road.

Witnesses say the man dodged two or three cars, but then he was struck by a pickup truck headed east on Fairview.

The man, who is in his late 20s, was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital with what officers say appear to be life-threatening injuries.

The scene was roped off with crime scene tape as police worked to reconstruct the crash and gather information.

The eastbound lanes of Fairview were closed for more than two hours.

The male driver of the pickup was not hurt. He has not been cited.

The crash remains under investigation.

Police say several witnesses had to slam on their brakes to avoid hitting the man. Officers would like to speak to those drivers.

Anyone who saw the man in the road or witnessed the collision who has not yet spoken with an officer is urged to contact detectives at 208-570-6290.
