New video shows Gowen Field's impact

BOISE -- A communitywide effort is under way with the goal of securing a new flying mission for the Idaho Air National Guard.

As part of the effort, dubbed "Gowen Strong," a new video shows the impact that the guard has had on local businesses and families.

The video came together as a result of a partnership between the City of Boise, the Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce, Idaho Power and many more. It promotes "Gowen Strong," a community effort to show the regional impact of Gowen Field.

Featured in the video are testimonials like one from guardsman and Boise Police officer Tom Schuler.

"Moving back to Boise was huge for my wife and I," said Schuler. "The fact that Gowen Field exists let me do that. I wanted to continue in the military and I think most of us who are at Gowen, we were either active duty or started there, but we wanted to serve our nation, we wanted to live in this state that we love and serve the state as necessary."

The video and "Gowen Strong" initiative come as the military is about to phase out the A-10 Thunderbolt by next year.

Local leaders, as well as Idaho's congressional delegation, have been pushing to secure a new flying mission for Gowen Field once the A-10s are gone.
