Nampa police to carry antidote for heroin overdoses

NAMPA - Police in southwest Idaho will start carrying a drug used to reverse overdoses caused by heroin and other opioid drugs.

The Idaho Press-Tribune reports that the Nampa Police Department intends to have most officers trained by Dec. 3 on how to use Narcan.

Narcan can be used by officers for emergency treatment on people suffering from a potential overdose.

Lt. Eric Skoglund says an increase in heroin in the area prompted the agency to start training officers to administer Narcan to potentially save lives.
